Fall Events & Volunteer Opportunities at Healing with Horses Ranch

September 10, 2024

As the cooler fall weather arrives, Healing with Horses Ranch, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit equine-assisted learning and therapy center, is excited to announce two community events along with volunteer opportunities for those interested in making a difference. Dedicated to promoting increased independence and resilience through the transformative power of the horse, the Ranch invites the community to participate and experience its mission in action.

The 6th Annual East Side Mini Golf Open is just around the corner, happening on Saturday, September 28th. Born in Austin, this roving mini-golf experience has become a beloved local tradition. For the second consecutive year, this event is proudly benefitting Healing with Horses Ranch. Event details and ticket information can be found on Eventbrite, as well as the Ranch’s website and social media platforms. Be sure to visit the Ranch team at hole number one, where their beloved equines will make a special appearance.

In addition, Healing with Horses Ranch and the City of Austin’s Roots & Wings Festival will proudly present the Hooves & Talons Trail Walk on Saturday, November 2nd. This free, community event celebrates Halloween, Day of the Dead, and the beauty of Austin’s urban ecosystem. Attendees will be able to explore the ranch’s 47 acres of preserved land, meet members of the therapy horse herd, and participate in nature and wildlife-themed activities. Highlights include a scavenger hunt, nature mask crafting, owl pellet dissecting, face painting, and more. Visitors can also contribute to a community pet ofrenda, join a raffle, and enjoy treats from local vendors. Costumes are encouraged but not required. This event promises to be a safe, family-friendly celebration where everyone can join in the fun.

Healing with Horses Ranch is more than just a place—it is a community dedicated to healing, positivity, and resilience. Equines are at the heart of everything the Ranch does. Through programs like Adaptive RidingEquine-Assisted Learning, and Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy, the ranch serves at-risk individuals, veterans, and people experiencing physical, emotional, mental, learning, and behavioral challenges, helping them build life skills through the power of the horse.

Founded in 2011 by Patty D’Andrea, a PATH Intl. Advanced Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor and Certified Equine Specialist, Healing with Horses Ranch is a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.) Premier Accredited Center. The Ranch sets high standards for the equine-assisted therapy industry and remains committed to ensuring financial hardship will never be a barrier. Assistance is available for the Ranch’s programs, and veterans receive services free of charge.

As the Ranch continues to grow, so does the need for volunteers to support its mission. A typical day at the Ranch involves feeding and caring for the horses, preparing for lessons, and maintaining the property. Dedicated volunteers help ensure the safety of riders and assist in the conditioning and care of the equines, contributing to the positive, healing atmosphere of the ranch. No prior experience is necessary.

Healing with Horses Ranch is located in Manor, Texas, just 17 miles east of downtown Austin, and serves the greater Austin area. It is a place where horses heal body, mind, and soul, creating lasting change for the individuals it serves. Those interested in volunteering can visit the Ranch’s website to sign up for orientation and learn more about how to get involved.
